FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I make adjustments to my cake order?
For wedding cakes: Your contract will reflect your anticipated guest count and the subsequent cake size. We understand that your actual guest count may differ from the anticipated count, so we will confirm the numbers and tier sizes of your wedding cake a month before your event, when your final cake deposit is due.
For other custom cakes and cookie orders, we cannot make changes to your order within 2 weeks of your event date. You may increase the number of servings if we are able to do so, but once we have secured a place for your cake/cookie order on our schedule, we cannot make significant changes to the overall number of servings, which, for custom cakes, would affect the outcome of the design.
For all cake and cookie orders, extra charges may apply for design changes and additions.
What is your cancellation policy?
Wedding cake cancellations must be made in writing by email and are officially considered cancelled once we confirm receipt of that email. All wedding cake booking fees of $150 are non-refundable.
Cancellations made more than 1 month prior to the event date will receive a full refund minus the non-refundable save-the-date deposit of $150. Any cancellations made within a month of the event will result in the forfeiture of all deposits. For custom cakes that are last-minute (week of) orders, all sales are final, and no refunds can be issued.
In the event that we cannot complete your order on the agreed date due to unforeseen circumstances, such as serious illness, accident, injury, or bereavement, we reserve the right to secure a substitute cake/cookie designer to fulfill your order. If we are unable to secure a substitute, we reserve the right to cancel your order and issue a full refund.
What if I need to postpone my wedding?
If we are available on your new wedding date, we will reschedule you on our production calendar, and all deposits and payments will be transferred. In the unfortunate event that we are not available on your new wedding date, we will issue a refund on your deposit (minus the $150 booking fee) if you postpone more than a month in advance of your wedding date. If you postpone less than a month before your wedding, you will forfeit all deposits.
What is your delivery area?
We deliver across Cape Cod and beyond. Delivery charges are calculated per mile, starting with a minimum fee of $70. We'll provide a more specific quote based on your venue's location.
Is your kitchen approved by the local Health Department?
Confections by the Sea operates as a Licensed Residential Kitchen and undergoes annual inspections by the local Health Department in Chatham, Cape Cod. Additionally, we are Serv-Safe certified and have completed Massachusetts’ Allergy Training.
Can I have fresh flowers on my cake?
While we prefer to adorn your cake with sugar flowers due to the potential for fresh flowers to carry pesticides, insects, dirt, or other contaminants, we understand if you choose fresh florals.
Should you prefer fresh flowers, please arrange them through your florist. We are happy to place them on your cake upon request. It remains the responsibility of your florist to ensure the safety and non-toxicity of the flowers for your cake.
Do you make cakes for special diets?
Do you make cakes for special diets? We can make most of our cake flavors gluten-free, and in some cases, even dairy-free. However, our regular buttercream cannot be made dairy-free, but we do offer a non-dairy buttercream alternative. Please note that we do not make cakes without eggs.
What if I need a gluten-free, nut-free, or dairy-free cake for guests with serious allergies?
At Confections by the Sea, our recipes typically include flour, milk, butter, sugar, and eggs; we occasionally use peanut butter and other nut products. While most of our products are made without nuts, we are not a nut-free, gluten-free, or dairy-free facility. Therefore, there's always a risk of cross-contamination, as some of our ingredients may contain or have come into contact with nuts, gluten, or dairy.
